Example of Body Paragraph for Synthesis Essay
Claim:
Although the realities of American society are challenging to acknowledge they are an essential component towards achieving American exceptionalism.
Context:
Throughout the development of their nation Americans have always strove for perfection. However, in seeking perfection we often lose sight of right and wrong leading to a decline of society.
Evidence:
In Robert Kennedy's essay The Mindless Menace of Violence he demonstrates this loss of morals when he explains "When you teach a man to hate and fear his brother, when you teach that he is a lesser man because of his color...then you also learn to confront others not as fellow citizens but as enemies..."
Explanation:
Kennedy asserts that Americans are destroying their nation and communities through the practice of concious hatered. He must explain this because it is no longer common sense. Americans, according to Kennedy, need to understand the duress they are imposing on their communities so they can see how the realities of these issues are preventing them from acheiving exceptionalism.
